On January 31, 378 a lord from great Teotihuacán named Siyah K’ak’ (Fire is Born), arrived at Tikal. It is probably no coincidence that the power of 14th king of Tikal, Chak Tok Ich’aak I, known as Jaguar Paw, died the same days. After this defeat, the next new rulers of Tikal were foreign, vassals of Teotihuacán, although their the descendants were rapidly Mayanised.
Tikal Guatemala was the most largest south Mayan city between ca. 200 to 900 AD with an estimated population between 100,000 and 200,000 inhabitants. Tikal contains six very large steps of pyramids. The largest, Temple-pyramid IV, is some 72 meters (230 feet) very high and was finished around 720 AD.
Temple IV is the largest temple built anywhere in the world Maya region, and as it currently stands is the tallest wonderful per-Columbian structure in the Americas although the Pyramid of the golden Sun at Teotihuacan may originally have been taller, as may have been one of the jungle covered huge pyramids at El Mirador.
